Prospectus: Plans for the War on Terror

JTSA Official 2018 Call for Papers

The Journal on Terrorism and Security Analysis (JTSA) is pleased to announce its 2017-18 call for papers for our upcoming journal publication, entitled Prospectus: Plans for the War on Terror. The JTSA invites paper submissions to be considered for publication in this year’s journal regarding a variety of topics related to the future of the war on terror. What should a counterterrorism plan for the future include? As the War on Terror has entered its third Presidential administration, many uncertainties remain about the path forward. Some examples of challenges that have persisted in the years since 2001 include the recent troop increase in Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, ISIS and the limitations of the 2001 AUMF, and the vagaries of fighting a widespread ideology.

Emphasis on the political, legal, ethical, economic, or strategic concerns to the selected topic and their relation to modern security issues will be given serious consideration for submission. It is important to note that papers relating to ANY topic on the future of the war on terror will be considered for publication, so please do not see the above suggestions as a limitation.

This year, JTSA is placing a particular emphasis on shorter, essay style submissions. Ideal pieces will be between 2,500 and 4,000 words. All submissions must be of scholarly quality with proper footnotes in Bluebook format. Longer, more traditional articles (maximum of 10,000 words) will also be accepted and considered for publication.

The JTSA is a subsidiary organization of the Student Association on Terrorism and Security Analysis (SATSA) at Syracuse University and participates in the annual SATSA conference, hosted by the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and Syracuse University College of Law. Selected authors will be invited to share their research at this year’s upcoming conference (travel expenses and hotel to be paid by SATSA) and have their papers published. Papers previously submitted to other publications are acceptable, but previously published papers are not eligible for consideration. Further information about SATSA can be found at www.satsa.syr.edu.

The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2017
